About Wamena

Wamena is 40 minutes from Jayapura by aircraft. Missionary came first time in Wamena on April, 1954. The tribe when I saw there is Dani Tribe. Some kind to say greetings in Dani Language, like: Nayak: You can say this word when you meet a man for greeting. Lauk: You can say this word when you meet a woman for greeting. Wa: It is mean thank you. Yoko: You can say this word when you want to say goodbye with them. Wam: It is mean pig.

There is Wesaput Village. You can walk through the hanging bridge about 50 metres long whose made by long and big steel cable with board base. You have a beautiful sweet potato view on the big garden. Also, traditional house called Honai whose made by round wood and the roof made by dry grasses. There is fireplace inside the Honai. Dutch came to Wamena in 1971-1973.

You can visit Jibama Market. It is a traditional market in Wamena. See the pig market, firewood market, vegetables, fruits, fish, souvenir and anything that you can see there. You can see or buy Pandanus Fruit. It is come from Wamena. There is Sinatma Market in Wamena. It is a traditional market too.

Drive to Napua Hills by car. You can see all of the Baliem Valley from the top. Wide of Baliem Valley is about 80 km long and 20 km short. Also, you can see Trikora Mountain. It is the highest mountain when you look from Napua Hills. You'll see Wamena River from the top of Napua Hills.

From 2009 until now, there is no alcohol by local government in Wamena. You can see and meet some people with traditional clothes from Dani People, like: Koteka, the man wear these clothes to cover their genital. Also, you can take pictures with them. Come and see Susu Mountain. It is like woman breast.

Visit to Aikima Village. There is Mummy there. His name is Werabak Elosa was killed by wild animal. It is about 250 years old.

You can see Suroba Village. There is Sin Trees when you walk to that village. There was businessman from America was married with Suroba Woman. He flew to Asmat by Helicopter, then fall down and missing until now.

Come to Kitikima Village and see Kearima River. It is beautiful river. Also, have a beautiful view of hills and sweet potato garden on the top of hill.
